United States v. Marquise Deone Isomi, et al. Marquise Deone Isomi and Rayla Storm Hunt Gagliardi were charged by criminal complaint on Oct. 24, with Transportation of an Illegal Alien.
On Oct. 22, a local police officer in Florence, AZ performed a traffic stop on a GMC Sierra pickup truck with a camper shell that was speeding on Highway 79.
The driver, later identified as Isomi, and a passenger, later identified as Gagliardi, were seated in front of the vehicle with two juveniles located in the rear passenger area. The juveniles, who were clothed in camouflage, were not wearing seatbelts and were surrounded by large amounts of clutter. A second officer that arrived at the stop observed the truck rocking back and worth, indicating weight shifting in vehicle’s bed. The officer shined a flashlight into a gap between the truck’s body and the camper shell and observed multiple people inside wearing camouflaged clothing and shoe covers. The officers suspected that they had encountered a human smuggling event and contacted Border Patrol.
Border Patrol Agent (BPAs) arrived at the scene and discovered that 11 people were in the truck’s bed, one of whom was a juvenile. BPAs determined that the 11 individuals in the truck’s bed, and the two juveniles inside the cabin, were citizens of either Mexico or Guatemala and illegally present in the United States. Of the three juveniles, two were unaccompanied minors. BPAs further learned that Isomi and Gagliardi used WhatsApp to coordinate with human smuggling coordinators and had trafficked aliens in a similar manner on multiple prior occasions. [Case Number: 26-MJ-3448]
A criminal complaint is a formal accusation of criminal conduct. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
