Maureen Porras is Running for Reelection

Porras has served as a Doral City Councilor since 2022 and is currently serving as Doral Vice Mayor from 2024 to 2025.

Throughout her time in office, she has passionately championed and supported numerous initiatives and programs that have significantly improved the quality of life for residents, strengthened public safety, expanded family-oriented programs, and promoted fiscal responsibility.

With a career as a public interest attorney since 2014, Maureen has been dedicated to providing access to legal services for the most vulnerable and marginalized immigrant populations since 2008. As legal director of a nonprofit organization for over nine years, she has also participated in humanitarian initiatives worldwide, including her collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Porras earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Florida International University (FIU), graduating with honors in 2010. During her time at FIU, she gained valuable experience through an internship with former U.S. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. She later earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Florida Coastal Law School in 2014, graduating with honors for her pro bono work at the Human Rights and Immigrant Clinic and for her leadership as President of the Immigration Law Society (VISA). Maureen has been a member of The Florida Bar since 2014.

Before being elected to the City Council, Porras served on several boards, including the Miami-Dade County School Board, the District 5 Citizen Oversight Committee, the Miami-Dade Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board, and the League of Women Voters. She is married to Caleb Johnston, an attorney and dedicated public servant who serves as a magistrate judge in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit of the State of Florida. Along with their daughter Lili, Maureen and Caleb proudly call Doral home and actively contribute to the community, including through Maureen’s involvement in the Doral Moms Club.

Fernanda Gomes is Running for Election

Gomes is a proud Doral resident, community leader, and advocate dedicated to serving the city she proudly calls home. Born in Venezuela to Portuguese parents, she brings a multicultural perspective, strong family values, and a deep appreciation for the opportunities that unite diverse communities like Doral.

For the past 10 years, Gomes and her family have built their lives in Doral, where she has been actively involved in civic engagement, community initiatives, and volunteer work focused on improving the quality of life for residents. She is also committed to protecting and preserving Doral as a family-centered city.

Gomes studied journalism and has also worked as a real estate professional for the past six years, helping families and investors make important decisions.

Her dedication to public service led her to serve for two consecutive years on the City of Doral Commission on the Status of Women, where she currently serves as chair. In this role, she has worked on initiatives that support women, families, and community engagement throughout the city.

She is also a graduate of the Mayor’s Citizen Government Academy and the City of Doral Citizen Police Academy, programs that strengthened her understanding of local government, public safety, and the importance of collaboration between residents and city leadership.

With her leadership, dedication, and sense of responsibility, Gomes is committed to working tirelessly to ensure that Doral remains a safe, vibrant, and family-oriented city where residents, businesses, and future generations can thrive.
