Our newsroom receives daily reports, information, and images detailing the heavy ICE presence in Doral. On Friday, September 11th, around noon, at the intersection of NW 87th and NW 74th Streets near the food trucks, two cars were abandoned in the middle of the street.
Local business owners reported that ICE arrived, stopped a car, and then began to take the driver away. The force used caused the other car to stop and intervene to defend the driver (which lawyers advise against). The situation escalated, and the agents also took the other driver into custody. As of now, the identities of those arrested and the official reason for the arrests are unknown.
Furthermore, the cars had been abandoned for over three hours with their doors open in the middle of the street.
We met with a group of lawyers, and this is what they explained to us regarding cars being impounded: Immigration agents have no jurisdiction over vehicles.
This message is for people without legal status or with pending cases: they should designate someone to act on their behalf when they are arrested.
Immigration agents only take the person; the car remains impounded. Later, the police are supposed to arrive and request that the car be towed.

Tom Homan is the director of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and said about the arrests, “The law is the law and it must be followed.”
