The suspect in the Trader Joe’s robbery died, and two San Francisco police officers were injured after being struck by a car during a chase, according to a press release from Louis Wong of the police department.
Officers from the San Francisco Police Department received a call at 7:30 a.m. . on Friday, the 12th, about a robbery at the Trader Joe’s store located at the intersection of California and Hyde streets in San Francisco. When officers approached the suspect, the confrontation escalated into a violent struggle, causing the suspect to flee. While running, a car struck all three officers; one officer was trapped under the vehicle. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters transported the two officers to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both officers suffered leg injuries.
SFPD indicated that the driver remained at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with investigators. No further details were provided regarding the driver’s speed or the cause of the collision.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, in a post on X, mentioned that he spoke with the two injured officers and wished them a speedy recovery. “Every day, our police officers risk their lives to keep San Francisco residents safe,” he said. “Any loss of life is a tragedy. I thank all the emergency services that acted quickly to provide assistance to everyone involved.”
