Simon Cowell, 66, the creator and judge of America’s Got Talent, will be absent for a few weeks due to another back surgery, as confirmed by a member of his office, who stated that it was “routine surgery and he will return in a few weeks.”
As of now, it is unknown who will replace him as a judge. Cowell is a judge on the show along with Sofía Vergara, Howie Mandel, and Mel B, who is also an executive producer of AGT.
In Malibu in August 2020, Cowell had an accident on an electric bicycle, fracturing his back in three places. He underwent five hours of surgery.
In London in 2022, he had another bicycle accident in which he broke his arm, which delayed his recovery.
Cowell shared that at the beginning of the 2020 accident, he hid his health condition and was ashamed to return home unable to walk. He also had metal rods and screws in his back. He didn’t know how to tell his son Eric what had happened, and the most precious and encouraging thing he said was, “Dad, you’re like Iron Man.”
America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
