Savannah Guthrie, 54, the Today show host, shared a post on her Instagram Stories on Sunday, June 7, about the disappearance of her mother, Nancy, now entering its fourth month. The brief but emotional message referred to her mother, who is believed to have been kidnapped from her Tucson, Arizona, home by a masked man in the early morning hours of February 1, alongside a painting depicting the Ascension of Christ. “Oh, my soul cries out, soul, cry out,” the text reads. Savannah added, “Bring her home.”
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos indicated that alleged ransom notes sent to local media reinforce his belief that Nancy, 84, was kidnapped against her will.
Nanos says no suspect has yet been identified in the case, but an update on May 12 indicated that his department, along with the FBI and other labs, is working diligently to solve it. “I think they’re getting closer every day.” “There’s a lot of work to be done, which continues, with some of the physical evidence we have,” the sheriff added, presumably referring to the mixed DNA found on the property, which is still being analyzed in the hopes of identifying a suspect.
Savannah has been very active in the campaign to find her mother. In March, she shared the same biblical painting on social media with the caption, “I believe, I believe.” Just a day earlier, the Today co-host and her siblings, Annie and Cameron, along with their respective partners, shared a statement thanking the people of Tucson for their support during the search for their mother.
“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from neighbors, friends, and the people of Tucson. We are all one family now. We continue to believe that the people of Tucson and the greater Southern Arizona community hold the key to solving this case,” the family said in a statement for KVOA News 4 Tucson’s special, “Bring Her Home: The Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.”
On Mother’s Day, Savannah shared a touching video featuring clips of Nancy. “Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie, we miss you with every breath,” Savannah wrote in the video’s description. “We will never stop looking for you. We will never find peace until we find you.”
“We need help,” she continued. “If anyone knows anything that could make a difference, please call 1-800-CALL-FBI. You can remain anonymous, and the reward is still being offered. Please continue to pray. Bring her home!”
