Seattle’s Annual Food Festival Tragically Ends in Shooting Leaving 3 Dead

A shooting at Seattle’s food festival left four injured and three dead: a 19-year-old man, a 44-year-old man, and a 56-year-old woman. Two people died at the scene, and a third died at the hospital.

The annual Bite of Seattle food festival, held at the Seattle Center in Seattle, Washington, on Sunday night, was the scene of a shooting between two gunmen, one of whom fled, while the other surrendered when cornered by police.

Seattle Deputy Police Chief Tyrone Davis said at a late-night press conference, “We believe two people shot each other.” Seven people were wounded by gunfire at the Civic Center complex, which also houses the city’s Space Needle. Two firearms were recovered at the scene. “We haven’t had any problems in recent years.” “We believe there is no threat to the community,” Davis concluded.

Susan Gregg, a spokesperson for Harborview Medical Center, said that among the wounded was a young child, and that all were in stable condition. She added that the victims sustained gunshot wounds to the arm, abdomen, and leg.

At the press conference, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson called the shooting “an unimaginable tragedy, a horrific act of violence.” “Right now, my heart goes out to the victims and their families, and to our entire community, which is devastated by what happened,” she stated. Wilson also stated that Seattle police detained a 15-year-old suspect for firearms-related offenses and first-degree assault, as it is believed this teenager opened fire on the crowd at the Bite of Seattle on Sunday night.

In a statement, he thanked the firefighters, first responders, event staff, and bystanders who helped people get to safety, as well as the hospital staff who treated the injured.

The Bite of Seattle food festival is a three-day, free event that attracts more than 350,000 people and concluded its third day this Sunday.

Attendees said: “From such a highly anticipated, fun, and crowded festival, sadly, we saw people running, screaming, others on the ground, some injured. I kept asking my family, ‘Are you okay? Are you hurt? Are you bleeding? Keep your heads down.’ I saw bodies being carried and said, ‘My God, protect my family.'”

The Seattle office of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) reported in a publication by X that some of its special agents were on the scene assisting Seattle police in the investigation.

The organizers of the Bite of Seattle food festival did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
