On August 31, 2026, emergency services received reports that a woman armed with two large knives had first attacked a 68-year-old man near West 41st Street in Manhattan, and then fatally stabbed a second victim near the intersection of West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue in Times Square: 32-year-old Erin Piacenti, a vice president at Bank of America, who had just returned from maternity, leaving behind a four-month-old son.
Police reported that 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros, was carrying two large knives and stabbed two people, killing the second victim and seriously injuring a 68-year-old man, according to the police report.
The police confronted her for approximately 4 minutes; she refused to drop the two knives and said, “I’m going to stab these two police officers right now.” And the police officer used a Tasers on her several times, but it had no effect. Police were forced to shoot her and then tackled her. She later died at the hospital.
Cisneros the Ecuadorian national is believed to be from the city of Cuenca, was a resident of Queens and had no criminal record. Her family said she had a history of mental health issues. She had been doing well for two years, and they don’t know what happened to her, according to her father, Mario Cisneros.
Her brother, Patrick, also mentioned that she had suffered from postpartum depression as part of her mental health history. Jessica Tisch of the New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that Cisneros had two recorded mental health-related incidents, one in 2018 and another in 2025. Previously, according to court records,
Cisneros had been married, and her husband filed for divorce in Florida in 2020, which was finalized in 2025. This created further family issues related to custody, as she had three daughters. Two of them lived with their father in Florida, while the third, who is autistic, resided in a nursing home in Brooklyn.
