Thousands of People in Venezuela Remain Missing After the Two Earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 Magnitude, and the Death toll Has Risen to 1,450

Posted on June 29, 2026June 29, 2026 By GBC NEWS No Comments on Thousands of People in Venezuela Remain Missing After the Two Earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 Magnitude, and the Death toll Has Risen to 1,450

Venezuela was shaken by two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2, followed by another stronger earthquake of magnitude 7.5, but the death toll rises to 1,450, but tens of thousands are still missing, the most affected part was on the Caribbean coast of Venezuela.

The people of Venezuela are frustrated by the government’s responses and limited access to heavy machinery in the state of La Guaira, the most affected.

including the rescue of a father and son four days after the disaster, offering a glimmer of hope.

Interim President Delcy Rodríguez, in a televised address on Sunday, affirmed that search and rescue operations would continue after the discovery of 33 people over the weekend,

“Today we recovered people alive,” she declared. “Therefore, rescue operations will not be suspended.” She added that electricity, water, and road access had been largely restored in La Guaira, a coastal area near the capital, Caracas.

Hopes of finding survivors after the powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela faded on Monday, as the first 48 to 72 hours after a natural disaster are crucial for rescue efforts, although survival can be prolonged if people have access to food and water.

Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez reported on Sunday that an average of 3,150 people were injured and 12,721 rescue workers had been deployed. He added that time was running out to rescue those still trapped under mountains of rubble. “We are in critical hours, crucial hours to continue rescuing lives and building camps where those who lost their homes or who, for whatever reason, cannot return to their residences can stay,” Rodríguez declared in a televised address.

According to the Venezuelan people, more than 40,000 people are missing. While waiting for aid, the population continues to help, using shovels, ropes, and their bare hands to dig through mountains of concrete collapsed by the earthquake, as the chances of finding survivors diminish with each passing hour.

A video on X released by the State Department showed helmeted rescuers pulling a crying baby, wrapped in a blanket, from the rubble.

United Nations humanitarian aid workers reported Saturday that a total of 44 international urban search and rescue teams, comprised of 2,245 specialists and 140 search dogs, had already been deployed in Venezuela.
