The Doral Community Devastated by ICE Raids, ASKS: WHEN DID WE BECOME ENEMIES OF DORAL?

Posted on September 11, 2026September 11, 2026 By GBC NEWS

Doral, a city founded by pioneers Doris and Alfred Kaskel, a peaceful city, a city of prosperity, a good economy—its community has made it possible for it to grow and become what it is today: the city of Doral.

In many interviews, calls, and letters we have received, the community’s question is directed to the authorities, especially Doral Mayor Christi Fraga: “When did we become enemies of Doral, our city, our home?”

Everyone agrees that the laws must be followed, that the criminals who came to create disorder, death, and destruction—individuals who come to cause harm and destruction—must be removed or expelled. But the Doral community is under threat.

People with no criminal record and pending immigration cases are being detained by immigration agents, Doral is on high alert, and residents are staying home. The city is deserted, and businesses continue to close.

One case in particular has drawn attention: Marianela Pujol and Nelson Díaz, from Venezuela and residents of Doral, were stopped at the Wawa gas station on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 11:49 p.m. They were stopped for work to charge their electric vehicle.

According to reports, the couple was intercepted and are currently in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Pujol and Díaz, who have no criminal record, entered the United States in 2021 with a U.S. visa and initiated an asylum process that is reportedly still pending.

Immigration lawyers have suggested that people not drive without legal status and not put themselves at unnecessary risk, regardless of whether they have a work permit or a pending application.
