Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputies reported that golfer Tiger Woods had red eyes and two opioid pills in his left pants pocket when he was arrested at the scene of his SUV crash in Florida, according to an affidavit obtained Tuesday, March 31.

Woods, 50, had been involved in two other traffic accidents. In Florida in 2009, he crashed near his home, and in Los Angeles in 2021, he sustained serious injuries and required surgery.
On Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday, March 27, 2026, he crashed his Land Rover SUV into a Ford F-150 pickup truck pulling a trailer. With the help of the truck driver and a witness, Woods was pulled from the vehicle through the passenger side.
Woods told an officer that he had looked down at his phone while changing the radio station in his car and didn’t notice the pickup truck in front of him slowing down. Trying to avoid hitting the truck, he struck the trailer, and his pickup rolled onto its driver’s side.
Throughout the investigation, an officer observed several signs of intoxication: red eyes, extremely dilated pupils, slowed movements, and heavy sweating. However, Woods remained alert and talkative, telling authorities that he hadn’t consumed alcohol that day, only taking some prescription medication that morning.
The officer administered a field sobriety test to Woods, during which he observed that he was limping and staggering to the right. The golfer was wearing a compression stocking over his right knee and appeared to have a leg injury. Woods even stated that he had undergone seven back surgeries and more than 20 leg operations.
Based on Woods’ performance during the field sobriety test, the officer arrested him for driving under the influence and property damage. He posted bail at the Martin County Jail that same day and was released. His mugshot was released shortly after his arrest.
