Tiger Woods, the 50-year-old golf superstar, was arrested and charged with driving a dark Land Rover under the influence of alcohol on Friday at 2 p.m. after being involved in a rollover accident. No one was injured in the crash, according to authorities from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.

The accident occurred on Jupiter Island and also involved a semi-truck. The driver of the semi-truck told authorities that he was turning onto a driveway from a two-lane highway when he looked in his rearview mirror and saw Woods’ Land Rover speeding. He swerved to avoid a collision but ultimately clipped the back of the trailer.
Woods’ SUV rolled onto its driver’s side door. The golfer was ejected through the window, authorities said. Neither Woods nor the truck driver was injured.
Deputies who responded to the scene suspected Woods was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He submitted to a breathalyzer test but refused a urine test, authorities said. He told officers he had taken medication for previous injuries. He was then arrested at the scene and taken to a local jail.
The golfer also faces a charge of refusing to submit to a drug test, according to authorities.
Earlier this week, Woods played in the Tomorrow’s Golf League final on Tuesday, where his team, Jupiter Links Golf Club, lost to Los Angeles Golf Club.
In 2021, the golfer was injured in a rollover accident in Rolling Hills Estates, in Southern California. Authorities said he was driving at least twice the speed limit in a 45 mph zone when his Genesis GV80 SUV struck a tree, causing the vehicle to become airborne and roll over.
Woods suffered serious injuries in that accident.
At the time, authorities stated there were no signs that he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, though this conclusion generated some controversy. Investigators were criticized for not obtaining a warrant for the golfer’s blood samples, which could have detected any traces of alcohol or drugs. Woods was not charged in that 2021 accident. The athlete had previously been admitted to a clinic in 2017 for prescription medication after being arrested that same year for driving under the influence in Florida.
