FIFA faces a court subpoena from the states of New York and New Jersey as part of an investigation into details related to ticket pricing and sales for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Letitia James and New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport stated that ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup matches are significantly higher compared to the previous World Cup. Fan complaints and reports of paying for tickets only to receive less desirable seats drew the attention of state authorities.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino defended the company, citing the limited supply of tickets for an event with global demand. Meanwhile, state attorneys general confirmed they are gathering information on the event’s overall pricing structure, seat locations, and other details related to the eight World Cup matches scheduled to be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The quarterfinals, semifinals, and final on July 19 will be held at MetLife Stadium.
New Yorkers have waited years for the World Cup to come to their city, with a fair chance to get tickets at reasonable prices. James said in a statement, “No one should be manipulated into paying exorbitant prices for seats, and fans should be able to trust that the tickets they purchased are the ones they will receive. FIFA has turned World Cup ticket sales into a maze of confusion, artificial scarcity, and exorbitant prices, all at the expense of consumers and New Jersey workers.”
