A homeless man living in his car with his pet died from exposure and carbon monoxide poisoning. This tragic case also involved man’s best friend, the most loyal dog, the one who asks for nothing in return, who doesn’t care if his owner has food or shelter, the one who could have saved him, but the weather conditions made it difficult. His canine companion could have been calling for help, could have said, “Dad, wake up, don’t go to sleep.”

People in the area reported a car with the driver slumped back for hours. When Portland police arrived and found the driver unresponsive, they had to break the window, confirming that both were dead.

The sheer number of homeless people in Portland is devastating. Mayor Wilson said at a press conference that he would address the problem, but instead, the homelessness rate continues to rise.

Then the coroner arrived to collect the body, and Portland’s animal control unit respectfully removed the pet, placing it in a designated area of the vehicle.
