Anne Robertson has always enjoyed connecting people with information and resources. Before joining the Miami-Dade Public Library System in 2018, she worked at Brockway Memorial Library in Miami Shores, where she discovered her love for libraries and found her career path.
Now serving as Assistant Branch Manager at the Lemon City Branch Library, Anne assists with daily branch operations, develops engaging programs, helps patrons with their library needs and supports the branch’s collections and administrative responsibilities.
What is your favorite part about working for the Library?
Helping patrons accomplish whatever goal brought them through our doors. Over the course of my eight years with the Library, I’ve assisted so many people, but the ones I remember most are those who came in stressed, crying or overwhelmed and left smiling and relieved. I hope to play a quiet part in the stories of others, serving as a steppingstone that helps them accomplish their goals.
What was the last book or eBook you read and what did you think of it?
Challenger: A True Story of Heroism and Disaster on the Edge of Space by Adam Higginbotham. It traces the history of NASA’s space program leading up to the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, following the many decisions that shaped its outcome. It’s a fascinating but stressful read because you know exactly how the story ends as each chapter reveals just how flawed the program had become.
What is your favorite Library resource?
Definitely the Libby, by OverDrive app. It’s the Library resource I use the most. It was invaluable while earning both my undergraduate and master’s degrees because many of the books I needed were available as eBooks. Now that I’ve finished school, I use it for books I want to read rather than books I have to read.
Are you working on any new/upcoming projects?
I’m currently developing new crafting projects for teens with one of our Library Assistants, including take-and-make kits they can complete at their own pace. Our goal is to create projects they’ll enjoy while encouraging more teens to participate in future in-person crafting programs.
Is there anything else you’d like to let us know about yourself?
I’m a dog mom to a 7-year-old golden retriever rescue and grew up as a “County Baby.” My mom worked for Miami-Dade County for more than 20 years, so I spent much of my childhood volunteering through programs like Baynanza, Adopt-a-Tree and mangrove planting projects. She taught me the importance of serving others and making our community a better place, and everything I do is in her memory. When I’m not working, I enjoy knitting, baking and playing video games.
